Losing anti-lock brakes, stability control and traction control raises your crash risk, especially in emergency stops or bad weather, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

These trucks have a part called the hydraulic control unit that runs the anti-lock brakes, the electronic stability control and the traction control. It can fail, shutting all three systems off. Without them, the wheels can lock up in a hard stop and the truck gets no help staying straight on slippery roads or in a sudden swerve, which makes a crash more likely. The notice does not say your regular brakes stop working.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls under campaign 24V896000 (FCA recall C4B).
2. Contact your Ram dealer or FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 — interim letters went out January 9, 2025, and some owners' final repair notices are not expected until around October 2026, so ask where your truck stands.
3. Have the dealer replace the brake hydraulic control unit or its motor once parts are available — the repair is free.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ram 2500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Pickup, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles. The hydraulic control unit (HCU) may fail, which can cause the anti-lock brake (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control systems to fail.
Safety risk
A loss of anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, or traction control can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the brake HCU, or replace the HCU motor, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed January 9, 2025. Some owner notification letters were mailed January 9, 2025. The remaining owner notification letters will be mailed at a future date, anticipated October 2026. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is C4B.
