A tire that lets go at speed can cause a sudden loss of control, so this is serious; Nissan has not told owners to stop driving, but have the tires inspected promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some Altima and Titan vehicles left the factory with Continental tires that were heated too long while they were being made. Over-baked tires can crack in the sidewall and lose air all at once, or the tread can peel away from the tire. Either one can happen while you are driving and make the vehicle hard to control. A Nissan dealer will look at your tires and put on new ones if yours are affected, at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is part of recall PC798. 2. Schedule a free tire inspection at a Nissan dealer; any bad tires are replaced at no charge. 3. Call Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 if you need help or did not receive a letter.

Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Altima and 2018-2021 Titan vehicles equipped with Continental tires. On the affected vehicles, it is possible that one or more tires were cured for too long during tire production.
Safety risk: Over cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall, resulting in sudden air loss or belt edge separation which could lead to tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 11, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC798.
