This is the most serious recall here: the engine can quit while you are driving and a failure can lead to an under-hood fire, so get it reprogrammed right away and stop driving if you hear knocking, see the oil light, or smell burning.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain Nissan Rogue and Altima and Infiniti QX50 and QX55 models with the 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter variable compression turbo engine were built with faulty engine bearings. Those bearings can wear out and destroy the engine. In a bad failure the bearing can punch a hole in the engine block, spraying hot oil that can start a fire. The dealer reprograms the engine computer at no charge to reduce the risk.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle and engine are included.
2. Call your dealer, Nissan customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti at 1-800-662-6200 (recalls R25A8/A9, R25B1/B2), and book the free engine computer update.
3. If the engine knocks, loses power, or the oil warning light comes on, pull over safely, shut it off, and have it towed.

Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.
Safety risk: Engine failure increases the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25A8/A9 and R25B1/B2.
