Dodge Durango side curtain airbag bolt loose or missing

NHTSA campaign 21V280000 · Reported 2021-04-22 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

A loose or missing fastener may cause the side curtain air bag to deploy incorrectly, increasing the risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain Dodge Durango SUVs, a bolt that holds the side curtain airbag in place may be loose or missing entirely. That airbag is the long one that drops down from the roof beside the windows. If the bolt is not holding properly, the airbag may not open the way it was designed to during a crash, so it may not protect people as well as it should. A dealer will tighten or replace the fastener free of charge.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see whether your Durango is included. 2. Call your Dodge dealer, or Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall Y16), to schedule the work. 3. Have the fastener tightened or replaced — it is free.
