When you shift into reverse, the screen may not show what is behind you, so you cannot see a child, a person, or an object in the vehicle's path while backing up. That makes it much easier to hit something you never saw. The repair is a software update for the radio, done at the dealer or sent to the vehicle wirelessly.
A software error in the computer that runs the anti-lock brakes can switch off the electronic stability control system. Stability control senses when the vehicle is starting to slide or spin in a turn and automatically brakes individual wheels to help you stay on course. With it shut off, you still have normal brakes and steering, but you lose that automatic help. Because of this, the vehicles do not meet the federal safety rule that requires stability control to work.
Some 2023 Dodge Durango Pursuit police models have the gear shifter mounted on the dashboard instead of the console. The rubber boot around that shifter can rub against it and push it out of gear while you are driving. If that happens, the engine stops sending power to the wheels and the vehicle coasts, even though the motor is still running. Chrysler's fix is a new shifter boot, installed at the dealer at no cost.
The spoiler across the back roof of your Durango may not have been lined up correctly with the roof. Each time the rear hatch is opened and closed, that misalignment can damage the spoiler. Certain 2022 Dodge Charger and Durango vehicles have a shifter assembly that was not heat-treated correctly, so the metal is not as strong as it should be. Because of that, the shifter may not fully catch in the "drive" position. It can slip out of drive on its own, and the vehicle would suddenly stop pulling while you are on the road. Dealers will replace the shifter assembly free of charge.

When that happens the engine can suddenly stop making power, so the vehicle slows or quits pulling with no warning, which is dangerous if you are merging, passing, or climbing a hill. There is no way for you to see it coming. The dealer replaces the whole valve assembly at no cost to you.
The steering rack is the gear assembly that turns your front wheels when you turn the wheel. A bar inside it may not have been hardened enough during manufacturing, so it can bind, or stick, inside the rack. When that happens the steering can feel very hard to turn, or you can lose steering control altogether, which can cause a crash. A dealer will replace the whole steering gear assembly at no charge to you.
Certain Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks and Dodge Durango SUVs have a software problem in the anti-lock brake computer. Because of it, the dashboard warning light for the electronic stability control — the system that helps keep the vehicle from skidding or spinning — may not light up when that system has a problem. So you could be driving with the stability system not working and never be told about it. Dealers will update the software free of charge.

A dealer will tighten or replace the fastener free of charge.
The software in your 8.4-inch or 12-inch radio screen has a bug. After you back up and shift out of reverse, the picture from the backup camera can stay on the screen instead of switching back to the normal display. That means you can be driving forward while a rear-facing picture is still showing, which can pull your eyes and attention off the road ahead. The fix is a software update for the radio screen.
The front differential — the gearbox that sends power to the front wheels — on these 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs may contain gears that were not hardened enough. The teeth on those gears can wear away. If they wear off completely, the vehicle can suddenly lose power while you are driving. It can also lose the PARK function, meaning the vehicle may not stay put when you park it. Dealers replace the whole front differential.
The computer that runs the engine has a small part inside, a voltage regulator chip, that can fail. When it does, the engine can shut off while you are driving, or the vehicle may not start at all. A stall in traffic leaves you without engine power and can put you in the path of other vehicles. Dealers will replace the whole engine computer at no charge.
These vehicles have cruise control, which holds a set speed for you. A short circuit in the wiring can lock the cruise control on. If that happens, tapping the brake pedal or pressing the off button may not shut it off, and the vehicle can keep its speed or even speed up on its own. Chrysler tells owners to stop using cruise control until the free computer software update is done at a dealer.
The wrong part may have been installed inside the automatic transmission. It is a rod that locks the transmission when you move the shifter into Park. If the wrong rod is in there, the transmission may not actually lock, so the vehicle can roll on its own after you think you have parked it. That could hurt someone standing nearby or cause a crash. A dealer installs the correct rod for free.
