Dodge Durango Pursuit shifter can slip out of gear

NHTSA campaign 23V640000 · Reported 2023-09-18 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

high How serious is it? About this label

Losing drive power in traffic with no warning is serious and can cause a crash, so get the free boot replaced as soon as you can; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving in the meantime.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2023 Dodge Durango Pursuit police models have the gear shifter mounted on the dashboard instead of the console. The rubber boot around that shifter can rub against it and push it out of gear while you are driving. If that happens, the engine stops sending power to the wheels and the vehicle coasts, even though the motor is still running. Chrysler's fix is a new shifter boot, installed at the dealer at no cost.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Durango is included in recall 94A.
2. Call a Dodge dealer, or FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403, and book the shifter boot replacement.
3. Have the work done — the repair is free, and keep the paperwork for your records.
