Dodge airbag recalls range from rupturing inflators to missing visor labels
These three Dodge recalls sit at very different severity levels but all touch occupant protection. The most serious by far is the side curtain inflator recall on 2018-2021 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 cars, where a manufacturing defect can make the left and right inflators rupture and throw sharp metal fragments at occupants. Well below it, the 2020-2021 Durango has a Side Air Bag Inflatable Curtain fastener that may be loose or missing, so the curtain may not protect people correctly in a crash. Lowest of all, some 2019 Chargers left the factory with sun visors missing the airbag warning information required by FMVSS 208. The Charger appears in two of the three.
Warning signs to watch for
- No warning light, noise or driving symptom is described in any of these three notices
- On a 2019 Charger, look at both sun visors — the required airbag warning information may simply be missing
- The Charger and 300 inflator defect shows itself only if the side curtain airbag actually deploys
- The Durango's loose or missing side curtain fastener is not described as producing any symptom you would notice
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these three recalls orders owners to stop driving or park outside, including the critical inflator campaign. That said, the Charger and 300 inflator notice is blunt: a ruptured inflator can send sharp metal fragments into occupants and cause injury or death, so that repair should be scheduled right away rather than at your next service visit. The Durango is described as safe to drive day to day, with the risk appearing only in a crash. The 2019 Charger visor label recall does not affect how the car drives at all.
What the free repair involves
Each recall gets its own hands-on repair, with no software or over-the-air option. On the Charger and 300, dealers replace both side curtain air bags. On the Durango, they tighten or replace the loose or missing curtain fastener. On the 2019 Charger, they replace the driver and passenger sun visors with ones carrying the required warning. Every repair is free of charge through FCA at 1-800-853-1403.

Common questions
Why did my Charger inflator letter arrive so long after the recall?
The side curtain inflator recall was reported in March 2024, but owner notification letters were not mailed until beginning February 20, 2025. If you have not received one and own a 2018-2021 Charger or 300, call FCA at 1-800-853-1403.
Is only one side curtain airbag replaced?
No. The notice says the right and left side curtain inflators may rupture, and dealers replace both side curtain air bags free of charge. Do not assume only one side needs attention because you have seen no symptoms.
Is the missing sun visor label really worth a dealer visit?
Yes. It is a noncompliance with FMVSS 208, and the notice says occupants face a higher injury risk without the required warning. The airbags themselves are not reported as defective, and dealers replace both driver and passenger visors free of charge.
