Hyundai Santa Fe fuel pipe may leak fuel

NHTSA campaign 21V308000 · Reported 2021-05-03 · Hyundai Motor America

high How serious is it? About this label

A fuel leak can start a fire, which is serious, but Hyundai reports all affected vehicles have already been repaired.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain Santa Fe SUVs with the 2.5-liter turbo engine, the fuel pipe that runs from the high-pressure fuel pump to the fuel rail may not have been tightened enough at the factory. A loose connection can let gasoline seep out while the engine is running. Leaking fuel near a hot engine can catch fire. Hyundai says dealers already inspected and tightened this connection on every affected vehicle, so no owner letters are being mailed for this recall.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm whether your vehicle was part of this recall and whether the repair is recorded as complete. 2. If anything still shows as open, or you smell gasoline, call Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (recall number 206) and take the vehicle to a Hyundai dealer. 3. The inspection and tightening are done free of charge.
