What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2024 Cayenne models, the hazard flashers and parking lights may fail to light up after you shut the car off. It happens only if you switch them on within about ten seconds of the car's main control unit powering down. That does not meet the federal rule for vehicle lighting, and a parked or stopped Cayenne could be harder for other drivers to see. Dealers update the control unit software free of charge.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Cayenne is covered.
2. Contact your Porsche dealer, or Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243 (recall APB1), for the free software update.
3. Until then, check that your hazard lights are actually flashing whenever you switch them on after parking.

Summary: Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2024 Cayenne, Cayenne S, Cayenne Coupe, Cayenne Turbo GT, and Cayenne S Coupe vehicles. After the vehicle is turned off, the rear hazard warning lights and the parking lights may not illuminate if they are activated within 10 seconds after the gateway control unit shuts off. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Safety risk: Rear hazard warning lights and parking lights that fail to illuminate can reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the gateway control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 26, 2023. Owners may contact Porsche's customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche's number for this recall is APB1.
