Certain Volkswagen Taos models with all-wheel drive have a software problem in the engine control unit, the computer that runs the engine. Because of this software, the engine can shut off on its own as you slow down and come to a stop. There is no warning before it happens, and you would have to restart the engine to get going again. Dealers will reload corrected engine software at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Taos is affected. 2. Call your Volkswagen dealer or Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 (recall 24HH) and schedule the software update. 3. Have the update done free of charge, and if the engine stalls, restart it in a safe place away from traffic.

Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2022 Taos vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive. The engine control unit (ECU) software may cause a stall when coming to a stop.
Safety risk: An engine stall increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 5, 2021. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 24HH.
