On some 2025-2026 Taos models, a sensor that monitors fuel pressure can break loose from the gas tank if the car is hit from behind. Once that sensor is knocked out of place, gasoline can leak out, especially if the vehicle rolls over, and leaking fuel raises the chance of a fire. These vehicles do not meet the federal safety rule for fuel system integrity. Dealers will add a short wiring extension so the sensor stays attached.
On some 2025 Volkswagen Jetta and Taos models, the display screen behind the steering wheel can go blank or fail to show information. That means you may lose your speedometer, fuel gauge, and warning lights, so you would not know how fast you are going or if the car is telling you something is wrong. Federal rules require these displays to work. Dealers will update the display's software and, if that does not fix it, replace the panel at no cost.
The pump that sends gasoline from the tank to the engine can break. If it fails while you are driving, the engine can quit suddenly, with no chance to pull over first. On certain 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan and Taos vehicles, and 2021 long-wheelbase Tiguans, a metal part that holds a rear wheel to the suspension can rust, crack and finally break. If it breaks while you are driving, the vehicle can suddenly become unstable and hard to control, which can cause a crash. Dealers will inspect the left and right rear parts and replace one or both if needed. Volkswagen is sending a second letter when repair parts are available.
On some 2022 Volkswagen Taos, the quick-connect fitting that joins the fuel line under the hood can pop off. If that happens, gasoline can leak out into the engine compartment. The engine may stall while you are driving, and leaking fuel near anything hot or sparking can catch fire. Dealers will look at the connection and, if needed, put in a new fuel line and connector at no cost to you.
Certain Volkswagen Taos models with all-wheel drive have a software problem in the engine control unit, the computer that runs the engine.
