The pump that sends gasoline from the tank to the engine can break. If it fails while you are driving, the engine can quit suddenly, with no chance to pull over first. Losing power in traffic or at highway speed can easily lead to a crash. A Volkswagen dealer will replace the fuel pump free of charge. Owner letters were expected to go out on May 26, 2023, but you do not need the letter to book the repair.
