Volkswagen Tiguan brake line nut may be loose

NHTSA campaign 21V853000 · Reported 2021-11-03 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

A loose brake pipe nut may allow brake fluid to leak, extending the distance required to stop and increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan vehicles, a nut that holds the brake pipe in place near the right front wheel well may not be tight enough. Brake fluid travels through that pipe to push the brakes. If the nut is loose, fluid can leak out, and without enough fluid the brakes do not work as well — it can take a longer distance to bring the vehicle to a stop. Dealers will check the nut and tighten it if needed, at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Tiguan is covered. 2. Call your Volkswagen dealer, or Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 (recall 19Q4), to book an inspection. 3. Have the brake pipe nut inspected and tightened — free of charge.
