Serious in a crash — the airbag may not protect you as intended — but the notice does not tell you to stop driving the truck.

What's wrong, in plain English

These trucks have airbags that drop down from the roof rail alongside the side windows to protect your head in a crash. Some were built with the wrong amount of compressed gas inside the inflator, so they may not inflate the way they are supposed to. You would have no way to tell from the driver's seat; the problem only shows up in a crash, when the airbag may not protect you properly and could add to your injuries.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to check whether your truck is included.
2. Contact a Ram dealer, or FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403, and reference recall Y99.
3. Have the side curtain airbag assemblies replaced at no cost.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Ram 2500, Ram 3500, and 2021 Ram 1500 Classic pickup trucks. The side air bag inflatable curtain (SABIC) assemblies may have been manufactured with the incorrect amount of compressed gas, which can result in an improper air bag deployment.
Safety risk
An air bag that deploys improperly can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the SABIC assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 17, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is Y99.
