Jeep Compass front headrests were not welded properly

NHTSA campaign 22V248000 · Reported 2022-04-14 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

low How serious is it? About this label

Lower urgency than a mechanical failure: the vehicle drives normally, but in a crash the front seat occupants could be hurt worse, so have the headrests replaced at your convenience.

What's wrong, in plain English

The headrests on the two front seats were not welded together properly, so they may not be as strong as they should be. Federal safety rules set a standard for headrests because they help keep your head and neck from snapping back in a crash. These headrests do not meet that standard. The dealer will install two new front headrests at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Compass is included. 2. Call your Jeep dealer, or FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403, and ask for recall Z36. 3. Have both front headrests replaced — the repair is free.
