Jeep Compass Dashboard Display Brightness Cannot Be Adjusted

NHTSA campaign 23V576000 · Reported 2023-08-14 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

A dashboard you cannot read clearly raises the chance of a crash, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, and the fix is a quick software update that is already available.

What's wrong, in plain English

The software that controls your Compass's dashboard display has a mistake in it, so the brightness of the instrument panel cannot be adjusted. If the display stays too dim, you may not be able to clearly read your speed or see warning lights, which could lead to a crash. This also means the vehicle does not meet a federal safety rule for controls and displays. Dealers can correct it with a software update; no parts are needed.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Compass is covered.
2. Call your Jeep dealer, or FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall number 88A), to book the software update.
3. Have the body control module software updated — the repair is free.
