Toyota 4Runner, Tacoma, Highlander weight labels can fade

NHTSA campaign 22V310000 · Reported 2022-05-06 · Gulf States Toyota, Inc.

low How serious is it? About this label

An illegible label may allow the vehicle to be overloaded, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The sticker that tells you how much weight your vehicle can safely carry was printed with ink that can fade until you can no longer read it. Without a readable label, you could load the truck or SUV with more people and cargo than it is built to handle. Gulf States Toyota is mailing owners a free replacement label with instructions to put it on yourself. Letters went out June 30, 2022.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm recall 22R1 applies to your vehicle.
2. Watch your mail for the free replacement label and instructions, and apply it as directed.
3. If the letter never arrives, call Gulf States Toyota customer service at 1-800-444-1074 — the label costs you nothing.
