Toyota Highlander third-row center belt anchor misaligned

NHTSA campaign 25V872000 · Reported 2025-12-17 · Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious for that one seat — the notice does not say to stop driving, but a belt that does not restrain the occupant raises the risk of injury in a crash, so avoid using the third-row center seat until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2024-2025 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid models, the anchor that holds the third-row center seat belt to the roof may have been bolted on at the wrong angle. Because it sits crooked, that belt may not hold the person in the middle of the back row properly if the vehicle is hit. Dealers will take the anchor off and reinstall it correctly with a new bolt, free of charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Highlander is affected (Toyota's number is 25TA16).
2. Schedule the repair with your Toyota dealer, or call Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331; letters were mailed January 27, 2026.
3. Have the anchor reinstalled with a new bolt — the repair is free.
