What's wrong, in plain English

A small part inside the automatic transmission, called the parking pawl, is what holds the truck still when you put it in Park. On these trucks it may not catch. If it does not, the truck can roll away on its own after you shift into Park and walk away, even though the shifter says P. Nissan says to use the parking brake every single time you park until the repair is done.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your truck falls under recall R22A2 or R22A3.
2. Set the parking brake every time you park, starting now.
3. Contact your Nissan dealer, or Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, to get the parking pawl pin replaced free of charge.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Frontier and Titan vehicles. The transmission parking pawl may not engage when the vehicle is shifted into park, which can result in a vehicle rollaway.
Safety risk
A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Owners are advised to apply the parking brake every time they park their vehicle. Dealers will replace the transmission parking pawl pin, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 2022. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22A2 R22A3.
