Ford F-53 and F-59 chassis steering wheel can detach

NHTSA campaign 22V528000 · Reported 2022-07-22 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

Extremely serious if it happens, because losing the steering wheel means losing control of the vehicle, but Ford reports every affected vehicle was already repaired.

What's wrong, in plain English

On these Ford motorhome and commercial truck chassis, the bolt that holds the steering wheel onto the steering column can work loose and come off. The steering wheel can then feel loose or separate in your hands, leaving you unable to steer the vehicle. Ford worked with the companies that finished building these vehicles to replace and tighten the bolt at no charge. Ford says all 692 affected vehicles had already been fixed by August 2022, so no owner letters were mailed.
