Rivian trucks and SUVs may have loose steering bolt

NHTSA campaign 22V744000 · Reported 2022-10-06 · Rivian Automotive, LLC

critical How serious is it? About this label

Losing steering control while driving is very serious and can happen without warning, so get this inspected right away even though the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle.

What's wrong, in plain English

A bolt that joins the front suspension arm to the part the wheel steers on may not have been tightened enough when the vehicle was built. If that bolt works its way loose and comes apart, the connection holding the front wheel in place can separate. You could suddenly lose the ability to steer the vehicle. Rivian dealers and service technicians will inspect the bolt and tighten it if needed, and the check costs you nothing.

What you should do

1. Verify your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Rivian is covered. 2. Contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261 (recall FSAM 997) to arrange the inspection as soon as possible. 3. The inspection and any tightening are free of charge.
