Volkswagen Atlas rear suspension bolts may loosen and fall out

NHTSA campaign 22V807000 · Reported 2022-10-26 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

critical How serious is it? About this label

Very serious — the notice warns of a sudden loss of control with no warning, so while Volkswagen has not told owners to park the vehicle, you should get this repaired right away and limit driving until it is done.

What's wrong, in plain English

Bolts that hold a key piece of the rear suspension — the driver-side rear trailing arm — may not have been tightened enough at the factory. Over time they can work loose and fall out. If that happens, the trailing arm can break, and you could suddenly lose control of the vehicle. This covers certain Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models. A dealer will replace those driver-side rear bolts for free.

What you should do

2. Contact your Volkswagen dealer immediately to schedule the bolt replacement, or call Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
3. Have the driver-side rear trailing arm bolts replaced — there is no charge; owner letters were expected to go out December 25, 2022.
