Ram 2500 and 3500 transmission fluid leak fire risk

NHTSA campaign 22V835000 · Reported 2022-11-10 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

critical How serious is it? About this label

This one carries a fire risk, so treat it as urgent; Chrysler has not told owners to stop driving or park outside, but get the free repair done as soon as you can.

What's wrong, in plain English

Pressure and heat can build up inside the automatic transmission on these heavy-duty Ram pickups. That pressure can push transmission fluid out of the dipstick tube, the tube where you check the fluid level. If that fluid drips onto something hot in the engine bay, it can catch fire. A dealer will install a new dipstick and a new transmission vent part so the pressure can escape normally instead of forcing fluid out. The parts and labor cost you nothing.
