Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid Fuel Tank May Leak

NHTSA campaign 23V028000 · Reported 2023-01-25 · Hyundai Motor America

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is a fire risk, which makes it one to handle quickly, though the notice does not tell owners to park outside or stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The fuel tank on these plug-in hybrids may have been formed incorrectly at the factory. A badly made tank can leak gasoline. If leaking fuel reaches something hot enough to light it, or a spark, it can start a fire. Hyundai has not told owners to park the car outside or to stop driving it. A dealer will inspect the tank and replace it if it is one of the bad ones, at no charge.

3. Let the dealer inspect and, if needed, replace the fuel tank — the repair is free.
