Subaru Solterra wheels can come off while driving

NHTSA campaign 23V064000 · Reported 2023-02-09 · Subaru of America, Inc.

critical How serious is it? About this label

Very serious — do not drive the vehicle at all until it is repaired, because a wheel could come off with no warning.

⚠ NHTSA advises not driving this vehicle until it is repaired. See all such recalls.

What's wrong, in plain English

The bolts that hold the wheel hubs on some 2023 Solterras were not tightened correctly at the factory. Over time they can work loose, and a wheel can come off the vehicle while you are driving. If that happens, you would lose control of the car. Subaru is telling owners not to drive these vehicles at all until a dealer checks and tightens the hub bolts, which costs nothing.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls right away to see if your Solterra is included.
2. Stop driving it and arrange to have it brought to a dealer rather than driving it there yourself.
3. Contact your Subaru dealer, or Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 (recall WRE-23), for the free inspection and tightening.
