The hand brake lever is the one you squeeze to slow the bike. On these motorcycles, that lever may not work properly, so you do not get the braking power you expect. The bike can take longer to stop than it should, which matters most in a sudden stop or in heavy traffic. The problem is traced to a small pin the lever pivots on; dealers will replace that pin free of charge.

3. Have the hand brake lever fulcrum pin replaced — the repair is free.

Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2023 S 1000 RR motorcycles. The motorcycle hand brake lever may not function correctly, reducing brake performance.
Safety risk: Reduced brake performance can extend the distance required to stop the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the hand brake lever fulcrum pin, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 25, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
