BMW S 1000 RR ignition lock failure can stall engine high

Reported 2026-07-23 · Campaign 26V478000 · Model years: 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025

Vibration from riding can wear out a part inside the ignition lock until it fails. When that happens, the instrument display can go dark, the rear lights can quit, safety systems such as anti-lock brakes can stop working, or the engine can shut off while you are riding. BMW does not have the fix ready yet. Letters warning owners are expected in September 2026, and a second letter will follow once the repair is available.

BMW motorcycles: emergency call system turned off by software medium

Reported 2025-07-25 · Campaign 25V480000 · Model years: 2025

Some 2025 BMW motorcycles were ordered with an optional emergency call feature. It is supposed to automatically call for help and send your location if you crash. Because of a software mistake at the factory, that feature was switched off on your bike. Everything else about the motorcycle works normally, and the bike itself is not damaged or unsafe. The only problem is that the automatic call for help will not go out. A free software update turns it back on.

BMW S 1000 RR hand brake lever reduces stopping power high

Reported 2023-02-24 · Campaign 23V123000 · Model years: 2023

The hand brake lever is the one you squeeze to slow the bike. On these motorcycles, that lever may not work properly, so you do not get the braking power you expect. The bike can take longer to stop than it should, which matters most in a sudden stop or in heavy traffic. The problem is traced to a small pin the lever pivots on; dealers will replace that pin free of charge.

BMW S 1000 RR clutch cover bolts can loosen, leak oil critical

Reported 2022-10-07 · Campaign 22V752000 · Model years: 2022

The bolts holding the clutch cover onto the engine were not greased properly when these motorcycles were built. Without that lubrication, the bolts can work themselves loose and the clutch cover can start leaking engine oil. BMW says an oil leak at the clutch cover raises the risk of a crash or a fire. Dealers will replace all ten clutch cover bolts at no charge to the owner.

BMW motorcycles: front brake calipers can leak brake fluid high

Reported 2020-08-13 · Campaign 20V476000 · Model years: 2020

The front brake calipers on these motorcycles — the parts that squeeze the brake pads against the wheel — can leak brake fluid while the bike is parked. Over time that leak lowers the fluid level in the reservoir, and low fluid can weaken your front braking. Because these bikes don't meet the federal motorcycle brake standard, dealers will inspect the front calipers and replace them with an improved version at no cost.
