This does not make the motorcycle itself dangerous to ride, but if you crash, first responders may never be told where you are, so get the update promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2025 BMW motorcycles were ordered with an optional emergency call feature. It is supposed to automatically call for help and send your location if you crash. Because of a software mistake at the factory, that feature was switched off on your bike. Everything else about the motorcycle works normally, and the bike itself is not damaged or unsafe. The only problem is that the automatic call for help will not go out. A free software update turns it back on.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your motorcycle is included. 2. Accept the over-the-air software update when your bike offers it, or book a dealer visit to have it installed. 3. The update is free; questions go to BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Summary
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 F 900 GS, F 800 GS, R 1300 GS Adventure, R 1300 GS, S 1000 RR, S 1000 R, and K 1600 GT vehicles equipped with the optional emergency call system. The emergency call system (eCall) may have been deactivated due to a software programming error.
Safety risk
In an emergency, first responders may not receive notification of the crash or emergency location, increasing the risk of injury to riders.
Remedy
The electronic control unit software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed September 12, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
