The SUV drives normally and Rivian does not say to stop driving, but an airbag that may not perform correctly leaves you less protected in a crash, so confirm your vehicle has had the fix.

What's wrong, in plain English

These 2022-2023 Rivian R1S SUVs have side curtain airbags, the ones that come down along the windows to protect people's heads. The fasteners holding the left and right curtain airbags in place may not be properly secured. If they are loose, the airbags may not work the way they are supposed to, so people inside would get less protection in a crash. Dealers tighten or replace the airbags free of charge, and Rivian says all owners were notified and vehicles repaired.

2. If it still shows open, contact Rivian service to have the side curtain airbags secured or replaced at no charge.

Summary: Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022-2023 R1S vehicles. The fasteners that secure the right and left side curtain air bags may be improperly secured.
Safety risk: Improperly secured side curtain air bags may not perform as intended, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will secure or replace the side curtain air bags as necessary, free of charge. All owners have been notified and all vehicles will be repaired by March 15, 2023. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1185.
