Ford Bronco backup camera image stays on screen too long

NHTSA campaign 23V165000 · Reported 2023-03-10 · Ford Motor Company

low How serious is it? About this label

A rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some Ford Broncos with the 8-inch SYNC screen keep showing the backup camera picture even after you shift out of reverse. These vehicles were already repaired once under an earlier recall, and the problem came back. A camera view that lingers on the screen while you are driving forward can pull your eyes off the road. The fix is a software update for the SYNC system, done at a dealer or sent to your Bronco over the air.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Bronco is included. 2. Watch for the over-the-air software update on your screen, or contact your dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 23C05). 3. Have the SYNC software updated — either way, it is free.
