Genesis G90 seat belt tighteners may burst in crash

NHTSA campaign 23V210000 · Reported 2023-03-28 · Hyundai Motor America

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious if you are ever in a crash, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so you can keep using the car while you schedule the free repair.

What's wrong, in plain English

Your seat belts have a small device that yanks the belt tight the instant a crash happens. On these 2023 Genesis G90s, that device can blow apart when it goes off. If it does, metal pieces can fly loose inside the car and hit the people sitting there. It affects the driver's belt, the front passenger's belt, and the rear belts. Dealers fix it by installing a cap that holds the parts in place.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your car is included.
2. Call your Genesis or Hyundai dealer, or Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (recall 013G), and book an appointment.
3. Have the pretensioner caps installed — the repair is free.
