Serious — losing drive power can leave you unable to accelerate or move out of traffic and raises the crash risk, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The fuel pump pushes gasoline from the tank to the engine. On these Mercedes-Benz models the pump can shut down on its own. When that happens the engine stops getting fuel and the vehicle loses drive power. Mercedes-Benz dealers replace the fuel pump free of charge. The recall covers a wide range of models — C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS, SL, GT, GLC, GLE, GLS and G-Class — so check your own VIN rather than guessing from the model name. Letters were mailed June 14, 2024.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, since only some vehicles in these model lines are affected.
2. Contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer or MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 (recall 2023070012) to schedule the fuel pump replacement.
3. Have the pump replaced — the repair is free.

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2021-2023 C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS, SL, GT, GLC, GLE, GLS, and G-Class vehicles. Please refer to MBUSA's recall report for specific vehicle details. The fuel pump may shutdown, which can result in a loss of drive power.
Safety risk
A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 14, 2024. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2023070012.
