This one is serious — a rear door opening at speed can injure someone or cause a crash, and a passenger could be stuck inside; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but it is wise to keep that rear seat empty until the latch is replaced.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain G 550 and G 63 AMG models had a replacement right-side rear door latch fitted during a service visit or an earlier recall repair. Parts inside that latch can stop the rear door from latching all the way. The door may look shut when it is not, and it can swing open while you are driving. The same damaged parts can also stop the rear door from being opened by someone sitting inside.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls against recall 24V659000 — notification letters went out October 11, 2024.
2. Contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer, or MBUSA at 1-800-367-6372, to have the right-side rear door latch replaced free of charge.
3. If your vehicle was already repaired under earlier recall 21V-353, tell the dealer — that repair does not count, and the new remedy still has to be done.

Summary: Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2019-2023 G 550 and 2019-2022 G63 AMG vehicles that received a replacement door latch during a service visit or prior recall repair. Components within the right-side rear door latch may prevent the rear doors from latching or opening properly.
Safety risk: The rear door may appear closed even when the latch is not fully engaged, allowing the door to open while driving and increasing the risk of injury or a crash. Damaged latch components may prevent the rear door from being opened while inside the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the right-side rear door latches, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 11, 2024. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Vehicles in this recall that were previously repaired under recall 21V-353 will need to have the new remedy completed.
