Ford Bronco and Lincoln SUVs: backup camera may go blank

NHTSA campaign 23V598000 · Reported 2023-08-25 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

Loss of the rearview camera image can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On these Ford and Lincoln vehicles, the backup camera may show nothing on the screen when you shift into reverse. Some models also have a 360-degree camera view that can go blank. Without the picture, you cannot see what is behind you on the screen, so you could back into a person, another car, or an object. Dealers will replace the backup camera and update the software and wiring if needed, all free of charge.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is covered by recall 23V598000 (Ford's number 23S48).
2. Call your Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule the free camera replacement; ask about parts availability, since Ford parts were expected in the second quarter of 2024.
3. Until it is fixed, turn and look behind you and use your mirrors every time you reverse.
