Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator backup camera may fail

NHTSA campaign 23V641000 · Reported 2023-09-18 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

A disabled rearview image can decrease the driver's visibility of the rear view, and disabled reverse lights may not alert others that the vehicle is reversing, increasing the risk of injury or crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On these manual-transmission Wranglers and Gladiators, shifting into reverse may not bring up the backup camera picture and may not turn on the reverse lights. That means you can be backing up with no camera view on the screen and no lights to warn people behind you that you are moving. The vehicles do not meet the federal rules for rear visibility and lighting. Dealers will replace the gear position sensor free of charge. Letters were mailed November 16, 2023.
