Tesla Model S and X may have wrong driver airbag

NHTSA campaign 23V743000 · Reported 2023-11-03 · Tesla, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

The wrong airbag can deploy incorrectly and injure the driver in a crash, though the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so the car can be used while you arrange the free inspection.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2021-2024 Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles had their steering yoke or round steering wheel swapped for the other style, and during that work the wrong driver airbag may have been fitted. An airbag that was not made for the steering wheel or yoke now on the car may not open the way it should in a crash. That means it could fail to protect the driver properly, or even cause injury itself. Tesla Service will inspect the car and replace the driver airbag if needed, at no cost.
