Rivian R1T and R1S windshield defroster controls turned off
high How serious is it? About this label
Moderate: the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but poor windshield visibility raises the risk of a crash, so avoid driving in fog, rain or cold until the update is installed.
What's wrong, in plain English
A software update sent to certain 2022-2023 Rivian R1T pickups and R1S SUVs may have switched off the controls for the windshield defroster and defogger. If those controls do not work, you cannot clear fog or ice off the windshield, so your view of the road ahead can get badly reduced while you are driving. Rivian has already sent out a free over-the-air software update that puts the defroster and defogger controls back in working order.
What you should do
2. Make sure your vehicle is connected and accepts the free over-the-air software update.
3. If the defroster controls still do not work, call Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261 and mention recall FSAM-1331.
