This is serious — the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle, but losing steering can happen suddenly and cause a crash, so get the inspection done as soon as possible and stop driving if the steering feels loose, sloppy, or makes clunking noises.

What's wrong, in plain English

A ball joint inside the steering gearbox can work loose and come apart from the steering rack. The steering rack is the part that turns your front wheels when you turn the wheel. If that joint separates, you can lose the ability to steer the vehicle. Honda dealers will inspect the steering gearbox and replace it if needed, at no charge. Owner letters went out in April 2024, so the inspection can be done now.

Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023 Passport and Ridgeline vehicles. The inner ball joint housing in the steering gearbox assembly may loosen and detach from the steering rack and result in a loss of steering control.
Safety risk: A loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the steering gearbox as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 11, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is LHY.
