Honda and Acura fuel pump can fail, stalling engine

NHTSA campaign 23V858000 · Reported 2023-12-18 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — the engine can quit while you are driving, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so get the free repair scheduled promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The fuel pump sits inside the gas tank and sends fuel to the engine. On these vehicles that pump can fail. When it does, the engine can stall while you are driving — losing power in traffic or on the highway raises the chance of a crash. A dealer will replace the entire fuel pump unit for free. This recall is an expansion of two earlier Honda fuel pump recalls covering additional vehicles.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Honda or Acura is included.
2. Call a Honda or Acura dealer, or Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 (recalls KGC and KGD), to schedule the fuel pump replacement.
3. The repair is free; if the engine ever stalls or hesitates before then, pull over safely and have the vehicle checked.
