Honda backup camera recalls: blank, blurry or missing reverse images
Every recall here is a rearview camera image that doesn't reach the screen, and several are repeats of earlier campaigns that didn't stick. Water intrusion killed the Odyssey camera twice, in 2020 and again in 2026, covering 2018-2020 vans. Ridgeline tailgate wiring appears twice as well — first on 2017-2019 trucks, then on 2020-2024 — because opening and closing the tailgate fatigues the harness. Fit and HR-V from 2018-2022 share a display audio power circuit design error that hides the image when the engine is started with a key, recalled in 2023 and re-recalled in 2024. Odyssey, Pilot and Passport also lost the image to a MOST cable connector, and an instrument panel software fault blanked the gauges along with the camera.
Warning signs to watch for
- No image at all when you shift into reverse — a blank screen instead of the camera view
- A distorted or blurry picture on Odysseys, where water can get into the camera through its mounting holes
- On Fit and HR-V, the camera failing to appear when the engine is started with a key
- On Ridgelines, the camera dropping out after repeated tailgate opening and closing breaks the wire harness
- On Odyssey, Pilot and Passport, the instrument panel going blank — no speedometer, gear position or oil pressure — along with the camera
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these nine recalls tells owners to stop driving or park outside, and none affects the engine, steering or brakes. What you lose is the view behind you, so the practical advice in the notices is the same: reverse slowly, use your mirrors, and turn to look over your shoulder until the camera is repaired — especially around children and pedestrians. The instrument panel recall on Odyssey, Pilot and Passport is the one to treat with more care, since the speedometer and gear display can also go blank; switching the vehicle off and restarting it restores the display.
What the free repair involves
Every repair here is free, and all happen at the dealer — none is delivered over the air. Software recalls are reprogramming jobs: the display audio unit on Accord, Insight, Fit and HR-V, and the instrument panel control module on Odyssey, Pilot and Passport. Hardware recalls mean parts: a new camera on water-affected Odysseys, a new tailgate harness on Ridgelines, and a MOST cable harness plus a straightening cover.

Common questions
My camera was already fixed under an earlier recall — why am I being called back?
Three of these campaigns are re-dos. The Fit and HR-V software recall was reissued in 2024 after the 2023 version, and Odyssey water intrusion and Ridgeline tailgate wiring each returned under new recall numbers covering different model years.
Is a failed backup camera actually a legal violation?
The notices state these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, the rearview visibility requirement. That is why Honda must recall and repair them at no cost, even though the failure does not change how the vehicle drives.
My Odyssey dash went blank while driving — what should I do?
That matches the instrument panel control module recall covering Odyssey, Pilot and Passport. The guidance is to turn the vehicle off and restart it to restore the display, then have the module software reprogrammed free of charge at a dealer.
