Rivian R1T and R1S trim clips affect curtain airbags

NHTSA campaign 24V408000 · Reported 2024-06-05 · Rivian Automotive, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

A side curtain airbag that does not deploy properly increases the risk of injury in a crash, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving while they wait for the repair.

What's wrong, in plain English

During a past service visit, the clips that hold the interior trim panels along the roof pillars — the posts beside and behind the front seats — may have been damaged. Those panels help guide the side curtain airbags, which drop down along the windows in a crash. With broken clips, a curtain airbag may not open the way it should, so it may not protect you properly. Rivian will replace the trim panels at no charge.
