RAM 3500 transmission leak can cause power or park loss

NHTSA campaign 24V413000 · Reported 2024-06-06 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

high How serious is it? About this label

This is serious, since power can be lost while driving and the truck may not hold in park; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but schedule the repair right away.

What's wrong, in plain English

A weld inside the transmission control unit may not be strong enough. If it fails, transmission fluid can leak onto electrical parts. That can make the truck lose drive power while you are moving, or lose the park function, so it might roll after you shift into park. Chrysler says both of these raise the risk of a crash. A dealer will replace the valve body and control unit at no charge. Owner letters were expected to be mailed July 26, 2024.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is affected. 2. Call your RAM dealer, or FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403, and reference recall 63B. 3. Have the valve body and control unit replaced — the repair is free.
