What's wrong, in plain English

Electronic stability control is the system that quietly applies individual brakes to keep the truck from sliding or spinning in a turn or on a slick road. A software problem in the anti-lock brake computer can switch that system off. Normal braking still works, but the extra help in a skid may not be there when you need it. These trucks do not meet the federal rule for stability control. Dealers reprogram the computer free.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is in campaign 24V653000 (FCA recall 85B).
2. Contact your Ram dealer or FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule the software update.
3. Have the anti-lock brake module reprogrammed — the repair is free.

Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2019, 2021-2024 Ram 1500 vehicles. Due to a software malfunction, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module may disable the electronic stability control system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
Safety risk: Driving with a disabled electronic stability control system can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the ABS control module software, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed October 10, 2024. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning September 26, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 85B.
