The driver may not know how to activate or deactivate the cruise control without the proper markings, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The control stalk on the steering column — the one you use to turn cruise control on and off — may be missing its printed markings. Without those symbols, a driver may not know how to switch cruise control on or how to shut it off. The cruise control itself is not broken; only the labeling is missing. Rivian will inspect the control unit on the steering column and replace it if the markings are missing, at no cost to you.

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. 2. Contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4264 (recall FSAM-1532) to arrange the inspection. 3. Have the control unit replaced if needed — the work is free.

Summary
Rivian Automotive, LLC. (Rivian) is recalling certain 2025 R1S vehicles. The steering column control module (SCCM) may be missing cruise control markings. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Control and Displays."
Safety risk
The driver may not know how to activate or deactivate the cruise control without the proper markings, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Rivian will inspect and replace the SCCMs as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 18, 2024. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4264. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1532.
