Ram 1500 Classic tow mirror glass can fall off

NHTSA campaign 24V754000 · Reported 2024-10-10 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

Not an immediate danger, and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but losing that mirror view raises your chances of a crash, so get it fixed soon.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain Ram 1500 Classic trucks with heated trailer-tow mirrors, the mirror glass on the driver's side can come loose and fall out of the mirror housing. Without that glass, you lose the view down the side and behind your truck, so you cannot see traffic coming up beside you or check your blind spot. Chrysler says these trucks do not meet the federal rear-visibility rule. A dealer will put in new mirror glass at no cost.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is included. 2. Call your Ram dealer (or FCA Customer Service at 1-800-853-1403, recall 86B) and book the mirror replacement. 3. Have the dealer install the new mirror glass — the repair is free.
