Rivian R1T and R1S exterior lights may not turn on

NHTSA campaign 24V827000 · Reported 2024-11-01 · Rivian Automotive, LLC

medium How serious is it? About this label

Deactivated exterior lighting reduces the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

A software version on these 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S vehicles has a bug. When the Car Costume feature is turned on, some of the outside lights may not come on at all. Without working exterior lights, other drivers have a harder time seeing you, especially at night or in bad weather. Rivian sends a free software update to the vehicle over the air; no dealer visit is needed.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included.
2. Install the latest Rivian software update over Wi-Fi — it is free and fixes the problem.
3. If you do not see the update, contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261 and reference recall FSAM-1552.
