What's wrong, in plain English

A software version on these 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S vehicles has a bug. When the Car Costume feature is turned on, some of the outside lights may not come on at all. Without working exterior lights, other drivers have a harder time seeing you, especially at night or in bad weather. Rivian sends a free software update to the vehicle over the air; no dealer visit is needed.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included.
2. Install the latest Rivian software update over Wi-Fi — it is free and fixes the problem.
3. If you do not see the update, contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261 and reference recall FSAM-1552.

Summary: Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2025 R1T and R1S vehicles. Software version 2024.39.30 may prevent certain exterior lights from turning on when the Car Costume feature is activated.
Safety risk: Deactivated exterior lighting reduces the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Rivian has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 18, 2024. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1552. (over-the-air software update)
