The notice does not restrict driving, but GM specifically tells owners to make sure the tailgate is closed and latched every time before they drive off.

What's wrong, in plain English

These heavy-duty pickups have a tailgate that opens with an electric button. Water can get into that button's switch and cause a short circuit, which can make the tailgate unlatch on its own while the truck is parked. If the tailgate then swings open, anything loose in the bed can fall out onto the road and create a hazard for you and other drivers. Dealers replace the outside touchpad switch assemblies, and GM says to check the tailgate before driving.

1. Check the tailgate is fully closed and latched before each drive.
2. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is covered.
3. Call Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC at 1-800-462-8782 (recall N242469160) and have the switch replaced free of charge.

Summary
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500, 3500, and GMC Sierra HD 2500, 3500 vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. The tailgate's electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in Park.
Safety risk
An unlatched tailgate may open and result in a loss of unsecured cargo, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 17, 2024. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N242469160. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA Recall 24V-060.
