Chevrolet latch recalls: hoods, doors and tailgates that open unexpectedly
The common thread across these six Chevrolet recalls is parts that were supposed to hold something shut and do not. Improper heat treatment shows up twice: hood-latch striker wires that can fracture on 2020 Silverado 2500 and 3500, and door strikers that can break on 2025 Blazer, Blazer EV and Equinox. Water getting into the tailgate's electronic release touchpad caused two nearly identical recalls on heavy-duty Silverado 2500 and 3500 trucks, first 2020-2024 and again for 2024 models. The other two are interior releases: a rear door-handle cable that can be damaged by the window on 2019-2020 Bolt EV, and a front trunk release button on the 2020 Corvette.
Warning signs to watch for
- A tailgate that pops open on its own, or opens when nobody touched the touchpad.
- A Bolt EV rear door that opens while driving, or a rear inside handle that will not open the door.
- A hood that rattles, sits unevenly or feels loose at the latch.
- The front trunk release button on a 2020 Corvette does nothing after the car has been shut off for about ten minutes.
- A door that does not feel securely latched, or a striker that looks broken or damaged.
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these six recalls tells you to stop driving or park outside. For both tailgate recalls, GM's specific instruction is to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before every drive, because cargo falling into traffic is a hazard. The hood latch and door striker recalls are not driving restrictions, but a hood opening at speed or a door unlatching is serious, so schedule those promptly. The Bolt EV door cable matters most if children ride in back. The Corvette front trunk issue does not affect driving at all.
What the free repair involves
All work is free. Dealers replace the entire hood assembly on the 2020 heavy-duty trucks, replace all four side door strikers and their attachment bolts on the 2025 Blazer and Equinox, replace the rear inside door-handle cables on the Bolt EV, and replace the exterior tailgate touchpad switch assembly. The Corvette front trunk release is a Body Control Module software update, at a dealer or over the air.

Common questions
Why were the heavy-duty tailgates recalled twice?
Two separate recalls cover the same fault — water getting into the electronic gate-release switch and shorting it — one for 2020-2024 Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD trucks, another for 2024 models. Both replace the exterior touchpad switch assembly free of charge.
Is my Bolt EV safe with children in the back seat?
The recall describes a rear door that can open unintentionally while driving, or an inside handle that fails to open the door. GM does not restrict driving, but that combination is a real risk for back-seat passengers, so book the free cable replacement quickly.
My 2025 Blazer is still at the dealer — do I get a letter?
No. All vehicles in the door striker recall were still in dealership inventory, so no owner notification letters were expected. The dealer replaces all four side door strikers and attachment bolts before delivery, at no cost to you.
