Toyota RAV4 and Lexus NX may have loose brake bolts

This is a serious problem because weaker brakes or a wheel coming off can cause a crash; the notice does not say to stop driving, but have it inspected right away and go straight to the dealer if the brake pedal feels soft or you hear noise from a wheel.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some 2024 RAV4 and 2025 Lexus NX vehicles, bolts holding the front brake caliper and the wheel hub bearing may not be tight enough. Loose bolts can rub against and damage the rubber hose that carries brake fluid to the caliper, or in the worst case let a wheel come off the vehicle. A leaking brake hose means weaker brakes and a longer distance to stop. A dealer will check and tighten the bolts and replace anything damaged, at no cost.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is on the list. 2. Call your Toyota or Lexus dealer to book the inspection, or contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 (recall numbers 24TA14 and 24LA08). 3. Have the bolts tightened and any damaged parts replaced — the repair is free.

Summary
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2024 RAV4 and 2025 Lexus NX vehicles. Some of the bolts that secure the front brake caliper and the wheel hub bearing may be loose, which can result in a damaged caliper brake hose or possible wheel detachment.
Safety risk
A damaged brake line can cause a brake fluid leak, reducing brake performance and increasing the distance required to stop the vehicle. Wheel detachment can result in a loss of vehicle control. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and tighten the front brake caliper mounting bracket and hub bearing bolts, as necessary, free of charge. In addition, any damaged components will be replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 23, 2025. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 24TA14 and 24LA08.
