Hyundai IONIQ 5 rear side airbag may not deploy

NHTSA campaign 25V064000 · Reported 2025-02-06 · Hyundai Motor America

medium How serious is it? About this label

The vehicle drives normally, but rear passengers could be less protected in a crash, so have the wiring checked soon — especially if you regularly carry people in the back.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric vehicles may have a break in the wiring harness that runs along the rear floor. That wiring carries the signal to the rear side airbag, so if the circuit is broken, the airbag that protects people in the back seat may not inflate the way it is supposed to in a crash. Nothing about how the vehicle drives or charges is affected. A dealer will inspect the rear floor wiring and replace it if needed, at no cost.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your IONIQ 5 is included. 2. Contact your Hyundai dealer to arrange the inspection, or call Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (recall 274). 3. Have the rear floor wiring inspected and replaced if necessary — the repair is free.
